Sheet-Fed Wide Format Scanners
A sheet-fed wide format scanner is a popular form of wide format scanners in the market today. They come in two differing styles; the manual feed and the auto-feed. The benefit to a sheet-fed wide format scanner is that you can actually feed the documents in one at a time or have multiple sheets fed in automatically one after the next.
Manual feed scanners are used and sought after because they give the user the ability to feed one sheet at a time through the scanner thus allowing them the time and ability to check the results before they enter the next document to be scanned or copies. Having this option gives the user an opportunity to be sure the document is being released as they wish it to be before multiple copies are produced or before the next document is entered into the wide format scanner for processing.
A manual feed scanner also allow the user the opportunity to stop the machine should a jam occur before other documents are caught up in the same predicament the machine has encountered. Being able to control the documents manually as they are put through the machine can prevent serious damage occurring to either to the document itself or to the machine should a jam result. Often times when a jam occurs or a document is mis-fed through a scanner, the document itself will become wrinkled severely or torn and thus can be damaged to the point where further feeding it through the scanner is impossible if the jam is not caught early enough and the scanning process stopped before too much of the document is taken into the scanner. Also, the bunching up of excessive paper in the machine can cause damage to the inter-workings of the scanner itself, perhaps lessening the smoothness of the rollers and the like, and costly repairs may be necessary before the scanner can be put back into use.
Auto-feed scanners, in spite of the risks they are exposed to due to the non-manual feeding of the documents offer other benefits that manual feed scanners do not. For example, not having to stand there and hand-feed a document into the scanner can save a lot of time in a fast-paced office environment and often time management is of the essence in situations like this. So having the ability to place one or more over-sized documents into the auto-feed scanner and being able to walk away to complete other tasks while they scan or copy can be a true benefit to those who never seem to have enough hours in the day as it is.
Also, an auto-feed scanner can come with a high-speed feature that further enhances over-sized scanning or copying of larger documents. With this feature, the wide format scanner can take in documents to be processed at a higher speed as well as release the resulting products at a higher speed thus again increasing the amount of work and output that can occur in any given time period. When working in a fast-paced or high production setting, this benefit can be essential to getting things done by a certain deadline and this is often the reason that offices will opt for the auto-feed scanner as opposed to the manual feed one.
Whatever your wide formatting scanning or copying needs may be, you can definitely find a sheet-fed wide format scanner that will meet and suit your needs best. Be sure to look at all the options and in the end, you will be pleased with the one you choose to invest in.
